Live, Love, Laugh – LaVerne H. Turnmire
Our family's matriarch, my grandmother, LaVerne passed away on April 2nd, 2016. She was surrounded by love. Born March 1, 1923, in Chicago to Caroline (nee Klimczak) and William Hayes, was a loving daughter, devoted and protective sister, caring and nurturing mother, cherished mother-in-law, adoring and spunky grandmother and great-grandmother, devoted aunt and great-aunt, dear godmother, and a wonderful friend to many.
LaVerne lived a full and, at times, tough life. Having graduated two years ahead of her peers, she started working full-time at 16. During her remarkable and long career, she was an Andy Frain usherette, a Patricia Stevens model, a legal secretary, and a proofreader for the American Bar Association. Always the life of the party, bold and glamorous whenever possible, lover of animals and children alike, poised and quick to laugh and smile. Through life and in her passing, she did it her way (like her life's anthem, Frank Sinatra's My Way).
She had rules that she lived by and insisted on. Be strong, love everyone, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day! The first rule was be kind, show respect to everyone, and love with all your heart.
Per her wishes, LaVerne’s body was donated to medical science. Memorial gifts may be made in LaVerne's honor to the Anti-Cruelty Society.
